The History of The Northumberland National Bank

Founded in 1903 in Northumberland, Pennsylvania, The Northumberland National Bank was created by local leader Charles Steele, who envisioned a bank people would feel comfortable with. From its original storefront at Queen and Water Streets, the bank quickly became a cornerstone of the community, keeping their doors open through pivotal events like The Great Depression.

Over the decades, Northumberland National Bank stayed ahead of changing customer needs by introducing drive-thru banking, ATMs, telephone banking, and online banking—all while maintaining the personal service that earned generations of trust. For over 120 years, it expanded to serve neighboring communities, always delivering on its promise of friendly, reliable local banking.

The History of Mifflinburg Bank & Trust

Established in 1872 in Mifflinburg, Pennsylvania, a town then thriving on buggy manufacturing and westward trade, Mifflinburg Bank built its early success on the strength of local businesses and residents. In 1925, it earned trust powers, expanding its financial services and adopting its full name: Mifflinburg Bank & Trust Company.

Growth continued through mergers and acquisitions, including the Farmers Bank in 1930 and the Laurelton State Bank in 1941. Through thoughtful leadership and strategic planning over several decades, the bank expanded into a full-service commercial institution with seven locations serving Mifflinburg, Lewisburg, Selinsgrove, Shamokin Dam, Millheim, and Milton.

The Formation of Central Penn Bank & Trust

In 2025, The Northumberland National Bank and Mifflinburg Bank & Trust united to form Central Penn Bank & Trust, combining generations of experience and deep roots in the beautiful heart of PA. This merger was driven by a shared mission: to deliver exceptional, personal banking service with the strength and resources of a unified community bank.
